Every person willing to drive a motor vehicle is required to have a driving licence for the particular category of motor vehicle he intends to drive. Two types of driving licences are issued. Learner's Licence is a temporary licence valid for 6 months and issued to citizens, while they are in the process of learning driving of Motor Vehicles. One becomes eligible for a Permanent Licence after expiry of one month from the date of issuing the learner's licence.
Department of Transport, Govt. of Tripura is the provider for this service through the office of the Deputy Transport Commissioner (in the State level) and District Transport Officers (3 numbers). The prescribed fee for learner's licence is Rs.30/- for each category. This fee includes all kind of fee payable for licences excluding photograph card, which is to be paid while applying for a permanent driving licence.
Procedure
For Learner's Licence: After verification of documents, the applicant has to give colour blindness and learner's test. The learner's test is oral and it has some multiple objective type questions on Traffic Signs and Rules.
For Permanent Licence: After scrutiny of documents, the applicant would be required to take the driving test, for which he would bring his vehicle along. The applicant will be tested for his driving skills, familiarisation with the vehicle, traffic rules & regulations and can also be asked about the vehicle system and safety.
Eligibility
The applicant need to meet to the Licensing Authority along with the following documents for Learners License.
Age eligibility: 18 years
For vehicles up to 50 CC engine capacity & without gear - 16 years (Provided parents/guardian consent is obtained.)
For commercial vehicle - 20 years
Applicant should be conversant with traffic rules & regulations.
Proof of age – School certificate, Birth certificate, PAN card
Proof of address – Voter ID card, LIC Policy, Passport
